Safe Haven

A Community Housing Network Development

About Safe Haven

Safe Haven provides permanent supportive housing for up to 16 formerly homeless persons with disabilities, who previously had difficulty obtaining or maintaining housing. The property includes a 50-car parking lot, which is also used by Safe Haven's neighbor, Netcare Access. NAMI, the National Association for the Mentally Ill, has a local office that leases most of the ground floor. Safe Haven itself occupies the remainder of the building with 13 studio apartments, a common social area, and offices. The location provides easy access to bus service, convenience shopping and employment opportunities.

Tenant services

Tenants receive services offered by Southeast and other service providers that include on-going assessment, case management, psychiatric services, medication monitoring, individual counseling, substance abuse treatment, assistance with activities of daily living, skills training, and referrals to community services. Support services are made available to tenants on a voluntary basis and tenants are encouraged to obtain case management services that are made available to them. Community Housing Network encourages the use of its Employment Center, as well as other job and vocational services.

Program management

CHN developed, owns, manages and operates this building. CHN staff are present in the building 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide general oversight and supervision. Southeast employs a Service Engagement Specialist, based in the building, who assists tenants in making adjustments to apartment living and in developing goals for their lives. Southeast is one of the largest community mental health centers in Franklin County and has a long track record of providing mental health and substance abuse services to homeless people.
